It’s the end of the school year and I am fielding calls from frantic parents whose children are in a play, speech or middle ages teaching unit event and requiring a costume. Our hallmark is taking parents and teachers through the most effective options including DIY and our webstore FeeFiFoFun Costume Concierge in Mississauga has thousands of items in stock.
Engaging your child through costume play Parents might like to know that a great way to engage an introverted child in a school project is get them into disguise. Disguise may free their social self to try on something or someone else. It may allow them to practice getting comfortable in front of others by hiding in plain view.
For the nervous speech giver, an appropriately chosen prop in their hand can distract their audience if they miss a line or it can give a little zing to their speech.
2016 Jungle Book and Beauty and the Beast are popular themes for school plays. One of our wonderful suppliers, HM Smallwares, represents several costume brands. I love their RG Costumes animal jumpsuits and stock a lamb, bear, lion and a reindeer in Medium [8-10] and Large [12-14].
These costumes are also for themed family parties. A mom doing a safari themed party bought the older sibling the Lion. The younger siblings sported our giraffe and zebra animal head bands and tail sets from ELOPE, while the parents wore the British style pith helmets.
Here’s a costume tip: If you are buying a jumpsuit style costume, go up one size as they tend to be short in the crotch area. My granddaughter is five and on the tall side. Here she is wearing the size 8-10. The shot is from the top down with me standing on the bed. Since the duvet and the costume were the same colour, I used one of my photography lights to create shadows which help delineate the costume shape.
I am a registered retailer of HMS and ELOPE products. If you can’t something on our website, please contact me and I will try and help you find it. Phone me at 905-823-3331 or email me at firstname.lastname@example.org
